Applications are currently being accepted for a Maintenance Mechanic at the Peace River Manasota Regional Water Supply Authority located in Arcadia, Florida.

Mechanic position performs skilled work in the maintenance and repair of water treatment plants, pumping stations and transmission mains.  Employees in this class must have a basic knowledge of the function of wells, pumps, valves, piping, motors and water treatment related equipment. The position requires knowledge of principles and practices of water treatment and plant machinery. Employees in this class have knowledge of safety practices, department procedures and perform assigned duties with considerable independence. Salary range $36K-$59K.

Minimum requirements include: High school diploma, vocational or GED; Vocational/technical diploma; Minimum two (2) years of experience in the maintenance and operation of mechanical equipment and systems or construction equipment; an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience; and a valid Florida State Driver’s license.

GENERAL DESCRIPTION

Under general supervision performs skilled work in the maintenance and repair of water resources, water treatment plants or water pumping stations.  Employees in this class must have a basic knowledge of the function of wells, plant equipment, diesel engines and water treatment plant related facilities. The position requires knowledge of operating principles and practices applicable to water treatment and plant pumping and machinery. Employees in this class have knowledge of department procedures and are capable of performing assigned duties with considerable independence.

MAJOR FUNCTION

Performs assigned work in mechanical maintenance and process control of water treatment plant facilities including aquifer storage and recovery wells, surface water reservoir facilities, booster pump stations, transmission pipelines, corrosion control systems and metering stations. Practice and enforce good safety procedures.

MAJOR DUTIES

The following duties are illustrative and not exhaustive. The omission of specific statements of duties does not exclude them from the position if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment to the position.  Depending on assigned area of responsibility, incumbents in the position may perform some or all of the activities described below.

  • Interprets blueprints and schematic drawings;
  • Calibrates computerized instrument and control system.
  • Inspects, maintains, troubleshoots and repairs water treatment plants and equipment.
  • Directs the work of one or more employees, in preventative and corrective mechanical maintenance.
  • Maintains standard measurement and control instrumentation.
  • Maintains inventory of spare parts.
  • Performs general housekeeping duties as directed.
  • Must be available on an “on call” basis as required by the Maintenance Supervisor.
  • Ability to maintain accurate records.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
