Mike Coates, PG
Mike Coates has been with the Authority since 2006 when he first served as the Authority’s Water Resources Director. He has worked as the Deputy Director since 2012. Prior to employment with the Authority, Mr. Coates worked for more than 18 years in water supply, infrastructure development, and resource management for Tampa Bay Water. He also worked in water supply planning and held regulatory positions with the South Florida and Southwest Florida Water Management Districts, and in the private sector as a geologist conducting petroleum exploration and development work. He is a member of the American Water Works Association (AWWA), and a member of the Association of Metropolitan Water Agencies (AMWA).
Mr. Coates has a Bachelor of Science degree in geology from Central Michigan University and is a registered professional geologist in the state of Florida. He has been instrumental in the development of aquifer storage and recovery (ASR) for the Authority, which is the largest ASR system in the southeastern United States
